about

TLDR: This is a Halloween playlist split into two parts made to feel like an audible Haunted House/Carnival. It is meant to be played at your socially distant Halloween Parties, in your car during Fall on long drives, and any other way you choose to celebrate Halloween this year. It’s meant to make the spooky season a bit more bearable this year. Enjoy!

Share it with your spookiest friend!

If you’re interested in hearing how this crazy project came about and how I made it, you can read that below :)

Beware….

For my birthday this year, I got a Bastl Thyme for myself. After a little bit of a learning curve, I figured out how I could incorporate it into my setup. At the time, My uncle was painting my bedroom and all my stuff was put in his sleeping area. When I figured out the Thyme, I showed him how it affected the different instruments and the possibilities it held. He mentioned maybe making a Halloween album because of the haunting noises it created.

My head started whirling.

The next day, I took a raw track and started recording some instruments through the Thyme and incorporated some organs and other textures. I recorded a good amount of material and then I added some drums to make it come to life. This is how the first track was born. Purely recorded synths and drones that I layered over drums, loops, and other elements.

One of the other suggestions my uncle made was to sample the creaky sounds of the dishwasher for a creepy effect. I took a full-blown opportunity to do that. Creating much of the background noise of Side A, I am convinced the dishwasher added some good old fashioned magic.

For Side B, I used the Thyme in an entirely different way. I used it, like always for recordings of the initial track. This side is more layered and many things were recorded separately. After about 6-7 minutes of song. I compressed the track, ran it through the Thyme, and then mic’d all the wonderful noises that came out of messing with my Thyme presets while the song played. I then turned that track into a whole different song, sampling parts and looping them. I then tossed that track back into the original and curated it accordingly. (If this doesn't make sense to you, you’re probably sane)

I know this year has been a total letdown and that no bad news is very surprising anymore so I wanted to make some kind of distraction. Noises loud enough to drown out the shit we’ve been numb to these past few months. I’m sure many people aren’t going to haunted houses this year and if you do, will it really be the same? This album is to serve as a substitution to haunted houses/spooky stuff. With characters talking throughout and creepy noises, it is an audible Haunted house that will spook you for Halloween’s to come. You’ll Never forget Halloween 2020 and COVID-19, but maybe if you listen close, there might still be a chance!
