about

Champenoise is a post-hardcore outfit from New Jersey comprised of musician/producer Jon Steinberg. With more introspective lyrics and heavier hitting riffs than his other project, TH Speedball, Steinberg gives these songs home with Champenoise.

Considered a passion and a project of growth, Champenoise's main focus is to mold their sound into a final form, perfect it, and bail. The project will eventually be framed in an anthology in release order to reveal the progression. Enjoy Champenoise.

Lyric Meanings:

How’s It Gonna Be?

I was listening to a lot of faster bands that slowed their sound down a bit for those melodic riffs and tones. Fury has this track called “Angels Over Berlin” and it subconsciously bled into this track. I wrote the bass line in bed and then the rest followed suit.

Lyrically this song is about working for a corporation where you are complacently one of many. The idea of working minimum wage to make a billionaire richer is sickening yet strategic. They tell you you’re making a difference while they are employing thousands of people but it’s all money at the end of the day for them. This song is about feeling replaceable and worthless when we deserve greater.

Opinions

The news is a great distraction from our lives. Watching celebrities lives unfold in the tabloids and on the tv is a great way to feel like they can be just like us. But why do we care? I have social media friends consistently wooing and booing celebrities they agree or disagree with. We don’t know these people, we know what they want to show us and it’s hilarious that people feel any deeper than that when it comes to their personal life. Go out to dinner with them, then let’s talk.

Fully Grown

One of the main reasons I started writing lyrics to some of my songs when I first started was to vent about coworkers. This is the latest installment of someone I no longer work with who drove me crazy. This song is a reminder to myself that we all are going through things differently and some people just love to be miserable.

Investments

My brain isn’t the best perceiver in the world. I’ve always talked about my anxiety and how I can get overwhelmed in situations. This song is about a poor investment in anxiety and how I should be fighting it instead of giving in. Trying to change what’s in our DNA can be tricky and tough but it’s something we work on every day.
